US to send $1,000,000,000 to Georgia...
Quote:
President George W. Bush's administration will announce on Wednesday a package of roughly $1 billion dollars in aid to help rebuild Georgia, an administration official said. The International Monetary Fund has approved a $750 million stand-by loan for Georgia, Economic Development Minister Eka Sharashidze said.

As if we hadn't already wasted enough on foreign affairs. We need someone in the office who can finally have the courage to say to the world "You're on your own" and focus on our own country.
I understand alliances are important, as well as importations/exportations, but come on. The current US legislation is branding Russia as a villain in this conflict. We seem to forget it was Georgian officials in Tslibi that shelled South Ossetia and killing 2000, whereas Russia's conquest barley harmed a 3 number digit of civilians.
US needs to stop acting the role as World Police and quit sticking their nose in everyone's business.
As for them being 'such a great ally' (in Iraq), well... That was their choice to help. We shouldn't feel so obligated to hold their hands now that they provoked someone.

World Police=NATO, not the US yet like you said we seem to think that we have to be world police. We would not have near the debt we do if we finally said this is your fight, not ours. Perhaps that could be why many countries hate us?

Ummm last I checked we are still helping them. And we have always provided support to countries in need. Had we done what Britian has done and only helped out when NATO entered or when they were attacked themselves then people probably wouldn't hate the US. You hardly ever hear about how much people hate England.
The US still helps countries but at some point they need to stand on their own. So we aren't saying F U, we are saying here is your chance to take back control of your country and if you need help we are there. But we need to get out at some point and let them start to stand on their own again.

This...is just stupid.
First the Bush administration supports Georgia in their genocidal efforts.
Now we're paying them to rebuild?
Granted they helped us in Iraq-but from my perspective after doing what they did, they deserve to be left out in the cold.
Screw it-I'm moving to Canada.

So why is it not okay to redistribute wealth to entire nations that need it, but it is okay to redistribute wealth to people that need it? I say if you are going to do it or not do it, go all the way. Either redistribute wealth to your own people and foriegn nations according to need or don't redistribute wealth at all.

There, I fixed it for you.
There are running some big oil pipes through Georgia, those pipes being shut down or being rerouted through, let's say, Russia would be quite bad for the US (and to be honest on this one, also for Europe).
There are plenty of places in the world wrecked because of war the US don't seem to give a crap about, mainly because they aren't important oil wise.
I'm not 100% up to date on this issue, but I can guarantee you this isn't some random act of kindness...

You do know that America is at war, spending millions, it doesn't have, every day? You do know that the nation is in recession? That the US dollar is worth less and less with every passing day? That the Credit/Mortgage Crisis and the whole housing mess has really damaged the US economy?
And yet, 1 billion is still going to Georgia, when it can instead be used to reduce the national debt(which is in the trillions), fix the national health system, fix social security(which won't be around by the time anyone in this generation retires), fight terrorism, etc... This is on top of what NATO and the UN will probably send, in which a large chunk of their funding/volunteers/soldiers also come from the US.
Yes, lets all hate the US cause they have no problems. Because all those oil nations aren't getting rich off us, and we don't have jobs outsourced to India and we don't import more stuff then we outport to nations like China(and Taiwan and Japan). Btw, how much are those nations giving?
Damned if we do, damned if we don't, huh?
*edit
@*Gem* You're right, it isn't. So other nations, who are going through the same things, should know just how screwed the US is right now and have a rough idea of how long it'll be before anything is right/normal again.

When the rest of the world holds you to a gold standard and hold itself to really no standard, it's difficult to do anything without criticism.
But I agree.

So you'd prefer a guy who will f*ck up the US even more, and some batshit crazy vice-president?
Oh ok.

Good points.
A reminder also why a good portion of the world seems to hate us. It's one keyword. One country, territory, group of people. The middle East, 9/11, it can all be traced to one source. You know what that source is?
Israel.
If it wasn't for us backing Israel up, we would be nowhere near this predicament. Not saying we should or shouldn't back Israel, but stating a clear reason as to why 9/11 and so forth escalated to what it is today.
Don't believe me? September 11, 2001 was a 'liberational' attack against the US. On September 11, 1922, The British Mandate of Palestine begins. This leads to Israel of today, in retrospect.
